A Weekend in Spring Lookbook by Fern About Town

The clocks have hopped forward and London is once again dappled with springtime sun! A new season also means a seasonal wardrobe refresh and what better way to embrace the first warm days of the year than a leisurely weekend stroll…

Join me as I share a few of my favourite new pieces as we head into spring, all of which will transition you seamlessly into the summer months. I’m also using the new season as an excuse to switch up my jewellery, and accessorising with a few new pieces from Johnny Loves Rosie. They’re dainty and feminine, and I know you’re going to love them!

Right, shall we…

Layering is such a key element when transitioning your wardrobe from one season to the next. Spring is a great time to do this, when you might want to wear lighter weight pieces in the daytime, but also be prepared for a temperature drop come evening. I don’t necessarily want to fold away the knitwear just yet, and love the versatility of this poncho. Easy to just pop over my blouse when it gets chilly and, let’s be honest, draped-over-the-shoulder knitwear always gives off those effortlessly chic vibes. Perfect for a casual weekend look, or just nipping out for a coffee…

I’ve paired this with some classic neutral-toned chinos which are a firm favourite throughout the year. These are from Zara, which bring out some sort of variation of them every few months. I own multiple pairs, in all colours, and find them a good alternative to jeans. A little bit more ‘put together’, but just as comfortable.

I might be willing on summer with this shoe choice, but if the sun’s shining…

Espadrilles are an easy way to incorporate heels (and height!) to an otherwise casual outfit. I love the whimsy of ribbon ties and the feminine gold-flecked pastel tweed detailing on these LK Bennett ones. Just the right side of weekend-casual, and will easily take you from the flower market to Sunday lunch. (I’m already imagining these with crisp linen dresses and wide-brimmed hats when the summer months arrive…)

I try and only carry handbag essentials at the weekend, and this vintage-esque mini trunk bag is just spacious enough – not to mention, discourages hoarding of old receipts (who else is guilty of this?). Phone, cards, keys, etc. all within easy reach.

On to jewellery and I wanted to share some of my favourite pieces from Johnny Loves Rosie. I love a brand with a story, but especially a love story. Johnny and Rosie are the real-life characters in this one, named after the parents of it’s founder, and, as you might expect, the range is inspired by old fashioned romance; Think personalised initial charms and astrology-inspired premium pieces for that moment when all the stars align… The current collection combines delicate and dainty, with more glitzy, statement pieces which you can mix and match.

I’ve paired up some of the daintier necklaces for this casual weekend look, which I like to layer and overlap individual charms. Combining jewellery pieces is such an easy way to inject a little bit of personality into an outfit and reflect your own style. For a daytime jewellery look, that style to me is understated, just to accent the rest of the outfit – almost in the same way a nude-toned lipstick enhances a natural make up look.

The hero Johnny Loves Rosie piece, for me, are the double stud earrings. I love the versatility and classic look of pearls, but these earrings have been given a modern-girl update. Oversized at the back, the pearl fastening is a pretty contrast to the crystal front. Sunday best, with touch of sparkle.
